Twelve Nights Reflective Reset

The Twelve Nights are the time between Christmas and Epiphany. They are traditionally understood as a time of transition, a threshold between what has been and what is yet to come.

With roots in Germanic and Celtic traditions, the Twelve Nights are often described as a liminal or mystical period, in which the boundary between the physical and spiritual realms is more permeable. This has long made them a time associated with turning inward, listening out, reflection, and intention-setting.

The twelve nights offer a unique opportunity to pause and look back over the year that has passed, reflecting on what has passed and letting go of what no longer serves us. They also invite us to look ahead, attending to the hopes, values and practical foundations we are laying for the year to come.

An Invitation

This year, I invite you to join me on a guided reflective journey through this significant time. Each day, I’ll share a short introduction to the specific night, reflective prompts, a brief meditation, a simple ritual, and invitations to begin setting intentions for the year ahead.

We'll start on the 25th December.

The focus of your reflections and what begins to emerge can be as broad or as specific as you wish. Along the way, I’ll be inviting attention to questions of security and sustainability, and to how we relate to the resources that support our lives and work.

Each night runs from 00:00 to 23:59 on the day the guidance is shared. I encourage you to set aside some quiet time and to use a journal, as writing things down can help deepen reflection and give you something to return to in the year ahead. Each night is symbolically linked to a month of the year ahead, offering a way to sow seeds for what is to come.
